One of the Five Monuments of cycling – the last of the UCI World Tour; ‘The Race of the Falling Leaves’ – ‘La classica delle foglie morte’. I attended the 2016 edition and these photos were taken at Magreglio at the top of the Madonna del Ghisallo climb. Known as a climbers classic, this edition was won by Colombian rider Esteban Chaves of Movistar team.
Legendary climb on the Il Lombardia (and Giro d’Italia) about 9km uphill from Lake Como. At the top is the town of Magreglio with its museum and church dedicated to the world of cycling. The Sanctuary is located in the town of Magreglio. Its Madonna is recognised as the Patron Saint of Cycling.
